Summary:Diary of politician Thomas Henry Grattan Esmonde, coverning the period 1 January 1921 to 31 December 1923, in which he records his attendance at various committee and board meetings, financial matters, his social engagements (including dining with Yeats in Nov. 1922), the publication of his writings, alongside questions of national politics and conflict, among them De Valera's return from the United States, the introduction of martial law in Cork, Waterford, Limerick, Kilkenny and Wexford (Jan. 1921), the extension of curfews (5 Mar. 1921), executions in Mountjoy Jail (14 Mar. 1914), ongoing railway disruption and his dealings with Irish Labour Party regarding the railways (Aug. 1921), Michael Collins' arrival in Wexford (9 Apr. 1922) and Anti Treaty forces' activity in Enniscorthy and Ferns (6 July 1922). He also writes of his buying Flemish paintings originally owned by Col. Cane of St. Wolstan's, Celbridge (29 July 1921) and travels in America (Oct. 1921).
