Summary:Letterpress pamphlet (four pages) issued in 1831 during the famine period featuring excerpts of letters sent by priests resident in parishes in Galway and Mayo and from the Marquis of Sligo during the period March 1830 to March 22 1831 documenting the situation of those living in Mayo, especially those residing in the districts around Clifden, Tuam and Westport, with reference to that fact that "the misery and want" was "almost equal to that [distress] of 1822" such was the degree of starvation and suffering. This pamphlet was issued some weeks after the pamphlet held at EPH D698 and was issued to encourage subscriptions to assit the needy - "Subscriptions will be received by all Bankers in Town and Country, and at No. 37, Cornhill, where the Committee meet daily". Handwritten at top of last page in black ink "1830 [which is underlined] / Distress in Ireland".
