Summary:Hudson's letter explains to Gallagher that he wrote to Lord Russell of Liverpool as "an expert" on war atrocities to suggest he "could well begin right at home by writing one on the Black and Tans". Lord Russell replies that the Black and Tans soon "got a bad name" after forming, "not entirely undeservedly". Lord Russell argues that Hudson claiming the Black and Tans were "just about equal to the Japs", shows that he is "completely ignorant of the true facts".
