Diary "Tour to Killarnen [Killarney] 1849" by "R.R.N.",
Account of three week tour in and around Killarney. The author is unidentified except for the initials "R. R. N." who mentions that he is travelling with "G... one of my Grays Inn colleagues" which implies that he is a lawyer or barrister. Possiblity that this is Robert Nettles, son of Richard Neville of Macroom, Co. Cork, who entered Trinity College Dublin in 1821 and then admitted to Gray's in 1831.
Manuscript on paper watermarked "Whatman 1849". Decorative title page lettered in red and blue watercolour inside decorative blue border. Illustrated with 15 contemporary topographical steel-engraved plates by T. Creswick. Bound in green morocco, double gilt and blind borders. Spine missing. Newspaper cutting pasted at end of journal regarding visit of Lord Lieutenant and his wife Lady Clarendon to Killarney in September 1849.
