Index at RR Counter covers 1850 to 1864 and names of persons are in alphabetical order with date and year of rental, and also location, given. Rentals may be called for by date. Some volumes bound together. Some years spread over several volumes. This set of volumes, bound in black, spans the years 1846 to 1864. It is the shorter of two sequences of rentals held by the National Library of Ireland and was compiled and deposited by a Tipperary JP, Joseph Burke/Bourke with the Royal Dublin Society under the terms of his will in 1864, and added to by the Society in 1865 and 1866. It passed, along with most of the collection then held by the RDS, to the National Library on its foundation in 1877. It is the most complete of the four collections - two in the National Archives of Ireland and two in the National Library of Ireland - for the period from 1850 to 1864, and has added importance in that its compiler frequently pasted in auction results, and cuttings from newspapers which described either the condition of the estates, or the circumstances which led to the sale.
