Meath ahead of his contesting the Meath South seat for Sinn Féin [during the 1918 General Election], notably his arrival in Dunboyne, Sinn Féin's holding a meeting in Ashbourne and subsequent events in Stamullan, Duleek and Ardcath, his discussions with members of the local clergy and hearing rumours that an opposition Nationalist candidate will also run; [Thomas O'Dononghue of the I.P.P. was the opposistion candidate who stood against Duggan in 1918].
