Summary: | Duggan writes of the Longford South by-election, the changing political mood in Ireland, his scepticism about recent converts to republicanism (‘it is very cheap to sing ‘’Soliders are we’’ when you know there’s nothing doing’), his attending a mass in Lewes prison for his fallen comrades and his view that since the Rising ‘everything we do is right – even our mistakes’. Duggan's letter also includes a note to both his sister Cissie Duggan and friend Mat. To the former he writes of their sister Maggie's health; to Matt he writes of the changing political climate in Ireland and his feelings of loss at the death his comrades who fought in the Rising. |
