| Summary: | Duggan's letter is addressed to his fiancée May Kavanagh, sister Cissie Duggan and friend Mat (identity unclear). Parts of the letter have been blocked by the censor. Writing to Kavanagh he acknowledges receipt of the photograph she sent him, which he confirms he has shown to his fellow inmates ('We are like boys in a school here. Everything that comes along is shewn around'). He also writes of attending religious services and of his friend and fellow prisoner Gerard Crofts, whose singing voice he admires. His letter is written on prison paper, which outlines the rules governing prisoner's correspondence; Duggan signs himself as Edmund. Writing to his sister Cissie Duggan, he assures her of his continuing good health and tells her he has put on weight. Writing to Mat, he refers prisoners receiving cards and shamrock for St. Patrick's Day and Mat's move to Birr, Co. Offaly. |
