| Summary: | Sergeant Courtney describes, in his deposition, how Michael McArdle took part, with about 200 other 'evil disposed persons', in an unlawful assembly, which disturbed the peace, and during which Constable Francis Fox was assaulted. Sergeant Courtney further says that on 26th November 1919 at 5.30 a.m. he arrested McArdle, who said 'I'm the only one lifted. The man that done it got away' |

| Notes: | The deposition is handwritten on a lined headed sheet of paper, with a 6 pence stamp in the top right-hand corner. The heading, printed in purple ink, begins 'Petty Sessions (Ireland) Act 14 & 15 Vic. Cap. 93'. There is space for the names of the Complainant and Defendant, details of the parish, barony and county etc. The rest of the sheet is filled with the handwritten deposition. On the back of the sheet (bottom right-hand corner): 'And the said deponent binds himself to attend at Castleblaney when called ....signed Alex Irwin, Justice of said County'.
