Lehane was asked by "Organiser Brown of the United Mine workers of America" to write an article for 'The Clarion' on the description of the state of affairs in Colorado. Lehane notes that he concentrated specifically on "the 'Battle of Ludlow' between the miners and the Rockefeller Mine Guards and the burning alive of some 20 women and children".
