Description: Hogan's speech (given at an unspecified conference following the closure of The Country Shop in 1978) refers to his own recollections of involvement with the Irish craft industry, the impact of a Scandinavian report on Irish crafts in the 1960s, the establishment of the Kilkenny Design Centre, the contribution of the I.D.A. and Bord Failte programmes to the craft industry, the formation of the Crafts Council of Ireland, the decline in rural handicrafts and continuing need for training programmes.
