Lehane explains his inital hesitation regarding the illustration of the cover of the Irish Socialist Republican Party publication, 'Erin's Hope'. Lehane also informs the recipient that he is taking night classes in Chemistry and Physics at the Cork Christian Bro[thers] College as he is "determined not to be a clerk much longer if I can help it".
