Copy of letter from the Socialist Labor Party and the Italian Socialist Federation to the Chairman and Members of the Police Commissioners of Newark, New Jersey, complaining about the confiscation of red flags from a peaceful parade and the windows of premises of the Italian Socialist Federation,
1905 September 1.
|Main Creator:||Socialist Labor Party|
The author refers to the Constitution and remarks "are we to be told that it is the color of a flag that makes the difference in free America. That words which are legal and law abiding on blue, white, purple, green, or orange flagsbecome [sic] treasonable if displayed on flags whose color is red. Such quibbling is childish and utterly unworthy the dignity of a city of this great nation.".
