Letter relates to the split in Clan-na-Gael between McGarrity, whose faction supported the Anti-Treaty forces during the Civil War, and Devoy and Cohalan who supported the Free State.
Inscribed at the top of the letter in Joseph McGarrity's handwriting: "Devoy to McGarrity", "Submitted for approval J. D.", "Devoy circular after his explusion from the Clan". Inscribed at the bottom of the letter in Joseph McGarrity's handwriting: "Devoy was [?] and expelled by J McGarrity in the name of the loyal members of the executive following the IRB order".
