Summary:There are 212 cookery recipes and 46 medical cures or useful household hints. The recipes include desserts, pastries, cakes, breads, custards, preserves, pickles, soups, fish and meat dishes. Amongst the cures are several for worms, fevers, whooping cough, scurvy, deafness, chapped hands, hives, bites of mad dogs. Mixed in with these are 'receipts' for making ink, mahogany tables (presumably the cleaning of), for keeping irons from rusting etc. Some of the recipes, cures and hints include the names of the people who provided them.

Notes:The volume, written in several different hands, contains recipes as well as cures for various ailments, with a list of the contents inside the front and back covers. The recipes and cures are written tĂȘte-bĂȘche. The book is quite worn and may have been used in the Maguire household for many years. Accompanying the volume is a modern list of the contents on three sheets of lined paper.

On the cover is inscribed 'Lady Elizabeth Maguir's'.
