Connell writes of his lecture "I summerized the first chapter of the Green's "Short History of the English People" and told them that they were Germans (and therefore Huns) to a man, and a woman.". Connell also writes of shortages in Engalnd: "Forty years ago I was starved out of Dublin. I am now very likely to be starved back again.".
