Patrick McCartan states: "I am begining to understand the Irish Protestant's position. He is not actuated by love of England but hatred of the priest in politics". He also mentions the Grogan's disagreement, their love interests (Mary and Sarah), "McCullagh", the "Hibernians", several newspapers, the Sinn Féin policy, Arthur Griffith and others.
