Summary: | Alice Stopford Green also writes "The reason for withdrawing the fees appears to be that Irish was one of the subjects, and the one w[hich] Irish [students] most desired to study. It is therefore to be forbidden to them by certain English officials" and also "For this decision, in open contempt of the known wish of the Irish people, was not made by the will of the Government of Ireland. The Irish Secretary has said in the House of Commons that the rule was passed against the desire of the National Board of Education".
