The Poole collection is generally based on studio work but now and again it turns up with a conundrum! This shot of a warehouse with open doors and barrels abounding poses the questions:
* Where is it?,
* Who owned it? and
* Is it still there?

Looks very like some social unrest one we had sometime in the last year, only without the people.

This is the one it reminded me of: www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland/8032153949/in/photolist-d...
Doesn't seem to be the same place
edit: Having said that, it could easily be O'Connell street.

Mr Fanning's Butter Store* with butter firkins outside?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firkin_(unit)#British_unit_for_butter_and_cheese
1/4 barrel = 1 firkin = 56 pounds = 25 kilograms

Thanks all. I totally concur on this likely being a commission for the Fanning family business in Waterford. Can we confirm a location though? Are there available street directories for Waterford? (Similar to those used for Cork and Dublin in the past...?)

Niall McAuley
The often valuable Lennon Wylie page has the 1894 street directory for Waterford, and on O'Connell St. lists:
6, 7. Chapman Bros., provision merchants
8, 9. R. Mahony & Co., do
10. J. Fanning & Co., do
