Description: Clarke has written to Kathleen's mother and uncle to ask permission for her to join him in America but has been refused. Her uncle has agreed to a delay of a year. She writes that her sister has asked "how I could be willing to leave everyone I ever knew for what she calls almost a stranger. I told her you were no stranger to me".
