| Summary: | Letter from William Halpin of Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co. Clare to "Edmond Kent". He thanks Ceannt for his article on union pipes in Saturday's An Claideamh Soluis, asking for Ceannt to write more articles on pipes, particularly directed at pipe tutors, "to preserve the pipes and pipe music of Ireland". He describes his own sets of pipes and his experiences in learning to play, expressing hope that his four violinist daughters will play the pipes when old enough and noting that his sixteen year old daughter's hands are still too small to play the pipes: "by the time childrens' fingers are long enough to cover [the holes], they are too old to commence learning". He describes O'Neill's book on Irish traditional music as too expensive for general use. He also remarks on a recent feis in Kilkee where the pipers gave an exhibition but did not play; |
