In Collection: Letters of Sean O'Casey to Mai McCarthy
Description: O'Casey refers to McCarthy's dissatisfaction working with the 'Irish Voice', advising her to stop if it doesn't suit her; and goes on to praise Joyce as 'too great for the most of us'. He says he is interested in every part of Ireland, north and south, and discusses the effect of the border. He talks then about education and says it was from Patrick Pearse he learned first what education should be: 'useful as well as beautiful, beautiful as well as good'. At the end of the letter he discusses an upcoming production in Dublin's Gaiety Theatre of his play 'Bishop's Bonfire', with Cyril Cusack.
