Notes: | Includes bibliographical references (p. ix-xi) and index. Book plate of Luttrells, Beatrix White. Front board has the additional gilt lettering, Beatrice Marconi.. She was the first wife of Guglielmo Marconi, Italian inventor and electrical engineer. He is credited with the invention of the radio. Marconi married Beatrice O'Brien (1882-1976), daughter of Edward Donough O'Brien, 14th Baron Inchiquin in 1905. In 1911, the Marconi family rented Eaglehurst, which included Luttrell's Tower, at Calshot in the parish of Fawley, Hampshire. Marconi used the top room of the tower as a laboratory. They moved back to Italy in 1916 and were divorced in 1924. The Luttrells of the book-plate must relate to the tower at Eaglehurst. The name Beatrix White is slightly puzzling.
