Description: Reynolds' letters, written from Cliton, Bristol, and Madeley Wood and Ketley, Shropshire, relate to the construction of canals (their engineering and the cost of materials), the building of a canal system for London (the Grand Surrey Canal) and his interest in Edgeworth's ideas for various inventions, including a mechanism for conveying coaches along canals.

Reynolds, in a letter dated 20 May 1800, congratulates Edgeworth on 'your retreat from your parliamentary bustle', in reference to Edgeworth's position as an M.P. at the time of the Act of Union.
