Description: Contains letters received by Edgeworth from a variety of correspondents including the canal builder William Reynolds, the Swiss scientist Marc Auguste Pictet, the President of St. Patrick's College Dr. Peter Flood, the educationalist Rev. Andrew Bell, Josiah Wedgwood, the chemist and inventor Sir Humphry Davy, John Foster, the architect Alexander Nimmo, the writer Barbara Hofland and his brother in law the hydrographer Captain Francis Beaufort. Also included are copies of letters from Edgeworth to friends and associates. His correspondence relates for the most part to developments in science and engineering, politics, the education and welfare of children, the rights of Irish Catholics, his business affairs and the upkeep of his estate at Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford, the Edgeworth family, and in later years, his own deteriorating health.
