Antrim, was one of the largest producers of linen thread in the world. Over a number of years, their distribution company, The Barbour Brothers, New York, had organised a series of competitions for prizes in lacemaking etc. These 'Prize Needlework Series' included the names of the prizewinners and detailed instructions on how to make the winning samples.
