Summary:Sarah Howard, in her letters, writes of family and social matters, mutual friends and acquaintances, including those among the Carysfort and Wingfield families. In a letter addressed from Maddox Street, London, she refers to attending an event at the Exeter Hall which was also attended by the author Harriet Beecher Stowe. In later years she writes of newspaper reports on Gladstone's Irish policies and the deaths of her sons Charles and Cecil [1891]. Letters are undated and written from Glenart, Arklow, Co. Wicklow, London, Tunbridge Wells and her home at Wingfield, Bray, Co. Wicklow. [Folders 1-3]


Lady Caroline's letters, written from childhood, refer to family matters, social engagements, holidays in the west of Ireland and her views on her cousins in the Finlay and Hamilton families, the latter described as the 'Dominick Street set'. In an early letter [ca. 1851] she refers to her having attended the Protestant Orphan Society's bazaar in Rathfarnham. Letters are mostly undated and are written from the Finlay's home of Corkagh House, London, Portsmouth, Davenham Hall, Cheshire, Ecclefechan, Scotland, Westport, Co. Mayo and France. [Folder 4]
