Summary:Invitation to the opening of the Countess of Cadogan's [Beatrix Jane, Countess Cadogan, née Craven (1844-1907)], Irish Textiles Exhibition held at the Royal University, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin on Thursday 19 August 1897, with an instruction printed lower right on card that 'morning dress' is to be worn. The Countess of Cadogan was the wife of George Henry Cadogan, 5th Earl Cadogan, (1840-1915), the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 1895 to 1902. According to 'The Freeman's Journal' reporter "There is a total of 272 stands for manufactured goods and 19 machinery exhibits, some in operation. The manufactured articles are divided into six classes, and the number of stalls of each is as follows - Linens, 49; woollens, 47; lace and crochet, 49 ; poplins and silks, 7; needlework and embroidery, 72; and hosiery, 47. The important feature of the stalls is the large number of exhibitors from the convents".
