A Mason image for today with a scene apparently from the Continent of Europe around the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries! The scene is dominated by distinctive church buildings but the street is alive with people and traffic!
Catb - was quick to identify this as Antwerp in Belgium. Specially looking along De Suikerrui (street with the tram) from the elevated Steenplein walkway. The Cathedral of our Lady dominates the background. As the trams in Antwerp were electrified in 1902, this image must date from after then (but probably not much later than then). As indicated by the near exact modern view shared in the comments below, this remains a fairly common vantage-point for snapshots - and indeed has seemingly been used for postcards of Antwerp for some time. That doesn't detract from the liveliness of this Mason shot however. I wonder if the capped/mustachioed man was known to the photographer...
Date: Catalogue range c.1890-1910. Likely after 1902 (electric trams)

D'n Anvers, niewaar? I should think somewhere in the twenties. The tram looks rather modern.

Electric trams happened in Antwerp from 1902; it must be fairly close to that from the women's hats and frocks ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trams_in_Antwerp

Taking a screengrab to do an image search to find where I have seen this before, I find I already have a screengrab saved since the 28th of August. Aha! When we were looking at M24/61/4: (which was Shere in Surrey and for which I was no help at all), I commented: There is a "probably not Irish" Mason photo next door at M24/61/5, but it is Antwerp, not a useful place in Surrey. Déja vu solved!
