[Thomas] Gladstone, Esq. will never sell you" and refernences to the candidate "Mr. Dawson Damer, the Puppet of the Peer, who would pull the wire for his own purposes, and make your Member a mere tool of that bigoted and bloated body, that has so trampled on you...Men of Portarlington, AWAKE! - prefer the man who prefers serving you to sordid gain". Thomas Gladstone (1804-1889) was the elder brother of William Gladstone and was successfully elected as an M.P. for Portarlington [from 1832 to 1835].
