The Scottish arms are accompanied by notes taken from Alexander Hay's "An Estimate of the Scottish Nobility During the Minority of James VI and Subsequently, with Preliminary Observations" (1577). Volume contains later annotation by William Betham, Ulster King of Arms 1820-1853.
