Title on verso of item; one of a thousand copies of rules and regulations drawn up by the board of governors of St. Stephen's Hospital for boys in Cork. Rule III reads: 'That no boy shall be admitted who is not legitimate born, and the offspring of honest parents at both father and mother's side, and citizens of Cork, or in its liberities - the grant expressly ordaining that they must be Protestants, the governors of course cannot deviate, without incurring censure for a breach of a constitutional charity trust. Hand-written entry at foot of item reads 'Can any just cause be assigned for thieving but this was modified in another edition'.
