John Newton of Bagenalstown House, Carlow was later appointed (in 1856) High Sheriff of the County of Carlow. On July 2, 1850 he married Janet Sempil, the fourth daughter of Sir Alexander Forbes; some years after his death (22 October 1859), his wife remarried Sir Thomas Rawson, M.D. in 1863.
