Letter from Charles Meyer to [John] Martin, expressing his sympathies on the death of a family member and urging him to exercise caution and restraint in political matters,

Meyer urges Martin not to "sacrifice" himself for the cause of Ireland, by imposing on himself "a task which you cannot conceal from yourself of being hopeless". He advocates peaceful measures to bring about change stating that he "cannot admit that because a system is foul we should resort to foul means to remove it".
Note with letter states the item was originally part of the Patrick James Smyth Collection (MSS 2111).
