First lines read: "Encouraged by the promised support of a great portion of the landed interest and by the powerful aid of the great body of the Independent Linen Merchants, I beg leave to offer myself as candidate for the honour of representing the County of London Derry in Parliament". Refers to a letter by William Ponsonby addressed to the gentlemen, clergy and freeholders of the City and County of Londonderry presenting himself as a candidate to represent the County of Londonderry in Parliament, dated on 30th October 1806.
