| Summary: | Satirical broadside, [in the form of a contemporaneous racing journal sheet], issued circa 1822-23 during the campaign for Catholic emancipation and at the time of a riot by the Orange Order [when the latter carried out their customary 12th July ritual of redecorating the statue of William III of Orange at College Green]; this prompted the Lord Mayor of Dublin to issue a proclamation banning this practice. Part of text reads: 'The corporation had an idea of entering their favourite horse Sweet William, by Boyne, but as he was imprudently stripped of his clothes, early in the winter, it will be impossible to have him in condition, until the next meeting, which, we understand, will be on the 12th July when his backers hope he will stand sound. The knowing ones, however, think that this once noble animal, from the poverty and folly of his owner, having been too often used as a common hack, is past his work'.
