Letter from Thomas Maguire to Captain Wyndham, concerning the effects of the famine in Maguire's parish and discussing the breeding and racing of dogs,

Maguire writes that the resident gentry had expressed their anger towards him for his absence at "a conjuncture so critical... when 3 favourites of our dense population were literally starving". He also states that the cost of Indian meal had risen and there was now "little to be had at any price".
Includes newspaper clipping reporting on death of Thomas Maguire in 1847 pasted onto page with biographical notes on various Irish figures. Also includes letter from Meyers & Co. Ltd. describing items (29 Sep. 1955).
