Mr. Butt expressed his belief that this would be impracticable, and that it would be comparatively easy to obtain the incorporation and endowment of a Catholic College in the University of Dublin of the plan suggested by the Pastoral of the bishops in October 1871, and worked out in the Irish University Bill of 1876".
