| Summary: | Italian broadside, printed in Lucca, concerning the annual festival of the Jesuit Saint Aloysius Gonzaga [known in Italy as San Aluigi (or Luigi) Gonzaga] taking place the first Sunday in August, 1854. Broadside features an image of him at top of sheet, wearing a black cassock and surplice, kneeling in prayer in front of a crucifix, a skull [a memento mori or symbolic reminder of mortality] is present at left. With decorative floral border and poem dedicated to his memory - the first line reads: 'Presso al suo fin Luigi al ciel volgea...' (which roughly translates as "At his right to heaven he wheeled about Luigi ..."). |
