Summary:Broadside featuring statement issued by William Smith O'Brien, Thomas Francis Meagher, Terence Bellew McManus and Patrick O'Donohoe while incarcerated in Richmond Gaol [Richmond General Penitentiary, Grangegorman, later (1897) Richmond District Lunatic Asylum] in 1848 following the incident known as the Young Irelander Rebellion [or "Battle of Ballingarry"] in August 1848. All were arrested, tried and convicted for sedition but public outcry saw a royal clemency commuting the death sentences passed to transportation for life to "the other side of the world" and in 1849 they were all were sent to Van Diemen's Land [Tasmania] with a stipulation that each of them were to reside in separate districts there.
