First lines read: " ... I beg to acquaint you, that at the public meeting of this Association held on ... you were appointed as one of the Repeal wardens for ... I herein enclose a copy of the report drawn up by Daniel O'Connell, Esq. M.P., which explains the objects of your appointment ... the principal duties being, to have petitions to Parliament for the repeal of the Union, and for redress of grievances, duly and correctly signed and fowarded - to attend to the Registries - and to organize your section of the parish, for the collection of the Repeal rent".
