Summary: | Letters between Maud Gonne MacBride and various representatives of the Irish White Cross, an organization set up in 1921 to distribute funds raised by the American Committee for Relief in Ireland. Included here is Gonne MacBride's general and administrative correspondence with Henry Kennedy, director of the Irish White Cross; with Clemens J. France, chairman of the American Committee for Relief in Ireland; and with Mary Donegan, president of the American Auxiliary Irish White Cross. Letters from various individuals requesting or giving thanks for financial support are comprised, with correspondents including K. Lynch; Father John Doherty of Ardara; Charles Kearney; and Father John MacGroarty of Kincasslagh. Also included are joint letters by Gonne MacBride and Charlotte Despard as well as a letter from Arthur Cox & Co, (Solicitors) to Helena Moloney regarding funds for the Irish White Cross. Finally, letters between Gonne MacBride and Áine Ceannt of the Irish White Cross Children's Relief Association concerning Seán MacBride's apprenticeship allowance (granted to the children of those executed in 1916) are included. |
