"... We appeal to the Irish Nation to give us a full and hearty support. At the present moment more than any previous time, when all Europe is plunged into a terrible and murderous war, the result of which, it is impossible to accurately foretell, it is the duty of every able bodied man to be trained to defend his native soil, and it ought to be a matter of reproach and disgrace to any man who does not, if suitable, enroll himself in the Irish Volunteers..."
