O'Connor mentions his meeting with Harold Tennant, Under-Secretary for State of War, "I told Mr. Tennant ... I thought I was dealing with an honorable gentleman [Kitchener] ... but that I should alter that opinion now, that Lord K [Kitchener] had dealt a blow at recruiting amongst the [Irish] Volunteers and that it was bad treatment of a body that had given him 25,000 soliders. I am now goin gto the Foreign Office to seek an interview with Mr. Asquith on Monday..."
