Park (1763-1838), judge, with the encouragement of his friend and patron, William Murray, Lord Mansfield, published a Treatise on the Law of Marine Insurance in 1787, largely based on Mansfield's opinions and decisions. It proved useful and successful, passed through six editions in Park's lifetime, and quickly brought him into practice, especially in mercantile causes. Although he was not an eloquent advocate, he was a lucid, earnest, and persuasive one, and his habit of constantly discussing cases with Mansfield gave him considerable experience in the application of principle.
