Summary:Contains correspondence of Mary B. Smyth, the wife of Grice Smyth of Ballynatray. She later married John Caulfield Irvine of Grove Hill, Cork. [see his correspondence at NLI MS 49,518/93] Contains business and family correspondence. A large proportion of letters are from tenants, after the death of her husband Grice Smyth in 1816, relating to rents and leases. Many letters from James Cooke, agent for the Limerick estates, concerning tenants and estate business. Also contains letters from Thomas Fitzgibbon, a land surveyor. [see NLI MS 49,518/19.] Some letters from her children concerning family matters including letters from Henry Mitchell, Gertrude and Richard Smyth, one letter of 1838 from Gertrude which discusses her prospective marriage to Lord Dinorben [who she married in 1840] and her sister Penelope, Princess of Capua. Also includes a letter from the Kildare Place Society relating to a school for the education of the poor. Contains correspondence from Charles Maunsell, solicitor for the family, concerning legal cases, expenses and family business, some relate to the Mount Uniacke estate of the Uniacke Fitzgeralds in Corkbeg, Co. Cork. Also contains a letter from Charles Maunsell relating to the engagement of Mary B. Smyth's son, Henry Mitchell Smyth, to Priscilla Widenham Creagh, Maunsell's cousin and heiress to Castle Widenham, Co. Cork.
