Summary:Contains Hamilton's letters, received from family members, friends and business associates, among them the writer Maria Edgeworth, poet Felicia Hemans, his employers the 3rd and 4th dukes of Leinster and Frederick Hamilton-Temple Blackwood, Baron Dufferin and Clandeboye, who corresponded with Hamilton on the question of tenant right in Ireland. Also included is his journal of a Continental tour Hamilton made as a young man and a bound volume containing his observations regarding the management of Lord Clifden's estate in Co. Tipperary.

Notes:Charles William Hamilton (1802-1880) was the eldest child of Charles Hamilton of Hamwood House, Co. Meath and Caroline Hamilton (née Tighe). He succeeded to the family estate of Hamwood following his father's death in 1857 and, like his father, served as agent to both the dukes of Leinster and his relative Daniel Tighe of Rossana, Co. Wicklow.
