| Summary: | Letters relate to the archives of the Hamilton family then in Bell's possession, the genealogy of various branches of the Hamilton family including those based in Canada, contemporary Indian politics and the question of pensions for Indian soldiers in the British Army, her attendance at various British State occassions, notably the opening of the parliament in 1936 and the coronation of George VI, and her life in London during the course of World War II. She also refers in passing to Violet Hamilton's plans or hopes of letting Hamwood and the literary career of Hamilton's daugher Esme. Also attached is a letter from Bell to her sister Maud Sergeant, dated 5 May 1921, a newspaper cutting relating to Lieut. G. J. Hamilton of the Frontier Force Regiment, grandson of Charles Hamilton of Hamwood, and attached envelopes with manuscript annotations relating to the correspondence. The annotations on the envelopes was possibly written by Violet Hamilton. |
