Description: Fergusson's letter, written to his wife between 27-29 August 1914, describes manoeuvres and losses sustained by the British Army during the Battle of Le Cateau. Reference is made to the Dublin Brigade advancing on German lines having run out of ammunition ('They got out of the trench + charged the Germans, + died to a man') and similar losses sustained by the Dundalk Brigade.
