| Notes: | The letter, addressed to the then Lord Lieutenant of Ireland Thomas Hamilton, Earl of Haddington, was forwarded to Charles William Hamilton, of Hamwood, Co. Meath, at his residence in Dominick Street, Dublin. The letter relates to the 'Nobelmen, Gentlemen and Electors' of Meath's opposition to any perceived attack on the established church and their concerns at 'political influence exercised by the Roman Catholic Priesthood'. Charles William Hamilton (1802-1880) was the eldest child of Charles Hamilton of Hamwood House, Co. Meath and Caroline Hamilton (née Tighe). He succeeded to the family estate of Hamwood following his father's death in 1857, and like his father, served as agent to both the dukes of Leinster and his relative Daniel Tighe of Rossana, Co.
